Selling & Consigning Original Art

Q: How do I sell or cosign my piece of Hurd artwork?

A:  If you’re looking to sell a piece of Hurd artwork, consigning it with the Hurd Gallery may be an option for you. The easiest way to begin this process would be to email the gallery at info@hurdgallery.com and attached a handful of photos of your artwork. You can also give us a call at (575-653-4331).

Q: Do you charge to give a value estimate on my Hurd artwork?

A: We do not do appraisals.

Q: How can I tell if I have a print or an original?

A:  If you own a print:

It is easy to determine a print from an oil or egg tempera because originals are painted on canvas or masonite, respectively. Most commonly people confuse a print for a watercolor. The most obvious difference is that a print will have a white border surrounding the image, while a watercolor will take a full sheet of paper.

Another way to determine the difference would be the location of the signature. If the print is part of a signed edition, you will be able to find the artists signature under the image on the white border either on the left or right side. An original watercolor will be signed on the actual painting in ink somewhere in the image. Unsigned prints are often mistakenly thought to be signed originals, but what the viewer is seeing is the signature is actually part of the printed image. Thus the signature is usually smaller as most prints are rarely the same size as the originals.
