After ten years of refining his artistic talent in Chadds Ford Pennsylvania, Peter Hurd, returned to his beloved New Mexico to establish his homestead. He settled in the small town of San Patricio and named his piece of land Sentinel Ranch. The ranch is named after “Sentinel Hill”, a vantage point previously used by Mexican homesteaders who kept watch for raiding Apaches and Mexican bandits. During his lifetime Peter would acquire available land in an effort to preserve the natural beauty of the Hondo Valley. As a result of his conservation efforts Peter, and later his son Michael, would become the proprietor of five New Mexican style casitas.
